*Read from the Times Daily and the University of North Alabama Website*
Lion Alerts, Emails, one building out of the whole University closed. What is going on? A long time University of North Alabama employee surrendered to authorities, Monday afternoon. In the case of a threatening letter containing a suspicious substance received on the fifth floor of Stevens Hall last Thursday. The fifth floor of Stevens Hall houses administrative offices for the UNA College of Education.
The letter, addressed to a UNA faculty member, quickly prompted an evacuation of Stevens Hall last Thursday afternoon. The building’s ventilation system was also shut down, while the building was decontaminated by Colbert County HazMat before reopening Friday morning. Three staff members coming in contact with the letter were also held for decontamination Thursday. They were released later that afternoon.
UNA Police have worked on the case in cooperation with Colbert County HazMat, the Florence Police Department, the Florence Fire Department, the FBI, the county EMA, the Department of Homeland Security and the Alabama Department of Public Health.
Many students and faculty members were very anxious to know exactly what was going on and who was responsible for this "Small Uproar". Luckily no one was hurt and the "White Stuff" is still an unknown substance.
(This is not the REAL substance. It is JUST a picture)
Until Next Time,

I was in Southaven with the UNA basketball teams when this occured! It wasscary just to hear about even though I wasn't on campus when it happened. Whether or not is was a cruel prank or whatever the case may be, its sad that someone who deems themselves a professional would do something like this knowing it could cause chaos on a University campus.
ReplyDeleteIt scares me very much to find out that stuff like this can happen in this small section of the world. And to think I read in an article the other day that the Shoals area was one of the safest places to live in the country. Just shows that it does not matter that scary events can happen anywhere.
ReplyDeleteHaving this happen to UNA is really shocking. I can't believe a teacher would do this? I have been at UNA for 4 years and I would have never even image that I teacher could or would want to do this. Glad it wasn't any of my teachers.
ReplyDeleteI do not know what the substance is. I hope this is just like clay or something else. I do not think this is somethings we scared. If it is, UNA will figure it out. We do not have to worry about it too much. We just believe it is not the scaring stuff.
